Iceberg Viewing - Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada

indestructible-manifestations:

The city of St. John’s features many museums, art galleries and urban parks throughout its hilly coastal environs.  In the hip sections of the city, low-rise buildings have been painted in a vibrant array of colors, a visual quality that is noticeable even from the ships that pass by.  When it comes to color, there’s nothing dull about this hamlet on the easternmost point of North America.

I know it doesn’t look like much but this picture holds a lot of meaning for me.

I’m at the very top of Cape Spear in Newfoundland, Canada.  This is actually the eastern-most point of all of Canada and North America. There is no landmass further east on the whole continent. When I took this picture, the only thing that stood between me and Europe was the Atlantic ocean.

Standing at the top of this enormous hill, feeling the wind and watching the ocean, brought with it a real sense of awe at the amazing world we live in. The Earth seemed so vast at that moment, and yet unbelievably small at the same time. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen something as beautiful.

This view inspired in me a yearning desire to explore - […]

I know that the way I felt standing at the top of Cape Spear will be etched into my memory for the rest of my life. I never want to loose that feeling.

Jellybean, St. John’s, Newfoundland; 2011.

This is a montage of four photographs taken from four different houses within the ‘Jellybean Row’ in downtown St. John’s, Newfoundland. I wanted to put together a photograph that conveyed the wonderful colours that we see everyday.
